Contractual regulations
The handover of archives by private individuals is contractually regulated. The agreement under private law also regulates how the documents should be accessed and used, especially if there are any restrictions on use relating to legal privacy or data protection issues, or copyright. We would hope that your archives could be made accessible to the interested public for research purposes quickly, so we favour allowing free access without restriction. Otherwise the conditions for accessing and using are as described in the User Rules and Regulations. The material that we receive is indexed as quickly as possible by the Burgerbibliothek of Berne, entered in the Online Archive Catalogue and made available to users in the Reading Room. In the case of donations, the Burgerbibliothek of Berne pays for any conservation or restoration work.
